It is looking excellent. I also follow the Charlo nest cam , some 70 or so miles south of you on the Explore.org site., as well as many others in Montana for many seasons now. They are getting close to this same action in the Charlo nest. Thank you so much for the info here, as it has helped me learn much more about Montana Ospreys in my research. Mr. McCarter and Montana Osprey in my research has helped me so much. I think the world of Mr. McCarter and his research. Thanks again for another fine cam I find helpful to watch.

Right you are, Jo! I started observing at approx 11:50 this late morning. Only 1 chick in nest & 1 parent on high perch. For the next 15-20 min, baby sat up on high perch with parent, did a lot of squawking. Then flew off towards camera & was back in approx 20 seconds. Saw that 3 times. I don't know if this was baby's 1st flight, but it was exciting to watch the culmination of these past months of growth & development. The other baby & 1 parent have been gone this entire time of my observation. Learning to fish maybe?? One question, are there any messes below the nest that Snappy's has to keep clean. I forgot to notice surrounding area of base of nest when I've been in. 8/4/2016 01:53:16 pm

Thank you for the info. I hoped the stand was in the shrubbery where all used matters can be compost for the soil!! So good planning! I noticed the chicks "tidying up the nest" before they started to fly & realized how clean they are. Gee we should have a Snappy's send off party for Lewis & Clark when they head south. We can all meet, some of us can get counseling for our sadness at their departure, but most important celebrate the success!!! My post is meant to be all in good fun!

Just got smacked in the face of the reality soon to come as they all head south. Clicked on to check on our Osprey family - the nest & perches were empty!!! First time in all these months no one was home, boo hoo!! 8/9/2016 06:49:52 pm

I feel like part of my family has flown the coop.....empty nest syndrome....I miss them already. Sure hope the camera will stay up for next years viewing...really enjoyed the whole episode from eggs to fledging...thank you again! 8/11/2016 09:27:03 am
We sure plan on keeping the camera up. We might turn it off when its empty over the winter, however next spring we will fire it back up. We are hoping that Duke and Duchess return and we will be able to watch the whole process over again. We are hoping to get up the pole this fall and make some improvements to the camera as well. Hopefully next year we have an even better experience for everyone.

Thank you for giving us this look into the lives of these awesome birds. What a great gift you have given us. The little ones grew so fast, doesn't seem possible they will soon be ready to make their long winter journey, and all alone no less.

Seeing an empty nest this morning gives me a sense of sadness. I haven't seen the chick's in awhile & much longer since I saw Duke, so they might be on their southern journey by now. It is a sign of summer is over, fall/winter is not far behind, but thanks to Snappys I got to observe these amazing raptors love towards each other, bring new life into the world, and nurture their chick's until it was time to leave them on their own. I wish them all well, and look forward to next spring. Thank you so much Snappys! Comments are closed.
