Lake Trout are starting to move shallow for pre spawn / spawn. Look along the West Shore down 60-80’. Trolling your large spoons, Kamloopers, Pot-O-Golds, Little Cleos should be your best bets. Look for the fish to be hanging North and South of West Shore State Park. The Whitefish are mostly done in the lake. You can still find some spawning in Woods Bay this fall. The Perch are still hitting in Elmo Bay.
We are seeing a few Whitefish starting to show up. The next couple of weeks will steadily improve. Pete’s Craw and Pete’s Tubes with 1/16oz or 1/8oz jig heads or Gitzit are excellent options. The Rainbow and Cutts are also hitting in the river. Try Salmon Eggs or some small spinners.
The Rainbows are starting to hit when trolling large fly on planner boards or you could also try Rapala’s. Also hearing reports of a few Salmon trolling on the South End down about 30’-40’.
Island LakeGood Perch still hitting. Not much has changed from last week. - Really good numbers of Perch, 7”-10”, using worms under a float or casting small jigs with a few maggots.
Snagging is still going, but starting to slow. Try Graves or Tobacco as there are still a few fish in there. Also, if you are up for a drive, they are still snagging Chinook at the dam over at Fort Peck. Lots of reports of 15-25lb fish.
Beaver Chain Lakes
Doing well for Rainbows. Try plain bait fishing – Powerbait, Worm, or Marshmallow. For Murray and Beaver lakes try trolling Flicker Shad or small Rapala’s.
Hungry Horse Reservoir
Excellent Cutthroat fishing. Trolling small Thomas lures in gold or nickel. The Mountain Whitefish are showing up in bays and creeks. Also hearing reports of them in the South Fork above the reservoir.
Good Grayling fishing. Try your small Panther Martins or Kamlooper spoons. If you are fly fishing small Nymph patterns are your best bet.
Good Brookie and Brown Trout action on the lower end. Try small spinners and spoons or small wet fly patterns.
