406-756-BAIT (2248) | 756BAIT.com![]() Image by Todd MacDonald from Pixabay Temps will be back in the rise for the middle of the week- better fishing conditions. Despite the cool weather, fishing has been good. Remember that Life Jackets will save lives! Ashley Lake Good numbers of Salmon, although they are around 10-12in. Trolling action has been good using a Dodger and a Hoochie Mama tipped with corn and maggots. Jigging is good if you can locate the large schools. Beaver Lake (Whitefish) Reports of a few nice Salmon jigging 15ft below the surface. Use Zimmer Tackle tipped with maggots. Rainbows have been tricky but a Brown Trout pattern Rapala is working best. Echo Lake
Great Perch action to the left of boat launch. Use Pete’s Crappie Candy in pink on a Big Eye Spinner jig. Cast and retrieve the lure about 6in off the bottom. Fennon Slough Good Northern action near the inlet. Early morning and early evening. Focus on shallower weed beds, switching to deeper spots mid-day. Spinner baits work best as you control the depth with your retrieve speed. Flathead Lake There are still hungry fish patrolling the delta. Woods Bay point is producing nice fish. Somers Bay is great for Smallmouth and Pike action. Decent Perch fishing on the South End. Flathead River Dry flies are starting to pick up as the temps are almost ready for a hatch. Good spots are Pressentine Bar, Blankenship, Glacier Rim, Polebridge, West Glacier and Crossover Bridge. Halfmoon Slough Try the NE corner about 100ft offshore. Use frozen smelt on a pike hanger under an orange/yellow bobber. Drop shot a finesse worm to catch quite a few smaller Bass. Horseshoe Lake (Ferndale) Great lake for Smallmouth action. Use a Backwater Bait Co white tube and drop shot it. Let the weight stay on the bottom and twitch the tube to instigate a bite response. Hungry Horse Reservoir Troll for Cutthroat using a white dodger and a pink wedding ring with corn and maggots. If casting, use a yellow/red dot Panther Martin with Power Bait. In the tributaries use a #8 snelled hook with salmon eggs. Lake Mary Ronan Lots of Perch being caught in front of Camp Tuffit. A great combo is a Northland Forage Minnow and live leeches. Salmon bite is slow right now. Lake 5 Reports of nice Rainbows caught from shore using a chrome/blue Little Cleo. Tons of smaller Perch in 12ft of water. Lion Lake Rainbows are being caught with a worm under a bobber from shore. Good place is right next to the main road. Smith Lake Another good week for small Pike. Anglers of all ages are having luck with top water frogs. Also try Buzz Baits to agitate the water surface to bring in distant fish.
