Reports of 2-4in of ice. Hearing that the Pike and Perch are hitting, and people are getting some nice fish. Rogers Lake 2-4in of ice here also. The Grayling and Cutties are biting below that ice. Smith Lake 3-4in of ice. The Pike and Perch are most active, and people are reporting good days. Flathead River The Whitefish are still going! Be sure to check your regulations for river fishing now though. Koocanusa Hearing reports of decent Rainbow action over by Rexburg. Bitterroot Lake People have been reporting good success with the Rainbows. The Lake Trout have been good using whole pea mouth or trolling Rapalas and shad raps in about 20ft of water. Lake McDonald Has been producing fish on just about everything that is legal to use in the National Park. Check the regulations as they differ from the State regulations Flathead River The Whitefish bite is still going strong. Use your green tubes, Ankle Biter Craws & a 1/8oz jig head. Also hearing about some Rainbows and Lakers in the river as well. Thompson River Had some strong reports of fish being caught using the Wooly Buggers for those big German Browns Ice Fishing – Smith Lake There have been initial reports of people out fishing on Smith Lake. PLEASE CHECK YOUR ICE as conditions will change quickly. Be safe! Christmas tree permits are free in 2020, and each permit allows up to three trees to be cut. Please display your permit on the dashboard of your vehicle when you go out to harvest the tree(s). Permits are good for all National Forests in Montana. Please observe the regulations and guidelines below; it is your responsibility to know where you can and cannot harvest National Forest Christmas trees. If you are unsure of the Forest boundary, maps showing ownership are available at the Supervisor's Office in Kalispell, or at the District Ranger Stations in Bigfork, Hungry Horse.

The Whitefish are running, and the bite is on! Try using 1/8oz jig heads with green body creatures. Bitterroot Lake Rainbows have been hitting good and stead. Drag your trolling flies behind planer boards in the late afternoon and into the evening for best results. McGregor Lake The Rainbows and lake trout are biting on Rapalas and Flicker Shads. Colder days in the in the afternoon seem to be the best times. Lake Koocanusa Rainbow Trout are hitting the trolling flies. Try late afternoon into the evening. Troll behind planer boards for best results. The perch are still sitting about 15ft deep. Use those Pete’s Crappy Candy or the Backwater Ankle Biters. Both are a solid choice and have been proving successful. Flathead Lake Hearing reports of Whitefish bite in the lake. No other major reports this week. Flathead River The Whitefish are running in the river. We have confirmation of lots of success. Use your 1/8oz jig heads with motor oil or green craw baits. You can use a tube as well, but the craws seem to be getting more bites. For the fly fishers we have hear good reports with the Rainbows on brown wooly buggers and green leech patterns. Kookanusa Sounds like the Rainbows are hitting pretty good. Most notably, we might actually see a Whitefish bite pick up in the river. With the season change, be ready to try different tactics and change it up. What you use today might not work tomorrow.
Lake Mary Ronan The Perch seem to be sitting around 15ft deep. Use your Backwater Ankle Biter Craws in motor oil or Pete’s Tackle Beergut in pink/brown combos. Flathead Lake The Lakers are sitting deep, around 70-100ft down. But they are hitting the double glow tail white jigs with a pike minnow tail on them. Dragging some Flatfish along the bottom has proven successful for some also. Flathead River Starting to hear more and more reports of the Whitefish. Most reports say the Backwater Perch Madness has been good. The fall run is just picking up. Use a 1/16-1/8oz green jig head for those soft plastics. The Whitefish in the river have been slow at best. However, dropping temps should be encouraging the bite. Backwater Ankle Biter Perch Madness with a 1/8oz jig head might just be your ticket. Flathead River Sloughs The pike are still biting. Get out your gold Husky Jerks and give them a go. Crappie are doing well, get down to about 15ft and let your Pete’s Tackle Crappie Candy or Backwater Ankle Biters do the work. Hungry Horse Reservoir Head up towards Spotted Bear for your big spawners right now. Take your Husky Jerks and Kamloopers with you for best success. Lake Francis We have been hearing some good reports out here. Trolling or bottom bouncing with walleye spinners or and airplane jig with a crawler have been getting some good success for people.
