Thompson Chain of Lakes: Are all open. Look for Pike, Perch, and Kokanee to start picking up. Echo Lake / Loon Lake (Ferndale): Open Bass and Trout being caught East Bay - Flathead: Perch are in. Not huge numbers. Where: Snappy's On Saturday, April 18th at 9AM Montana Wilderness Association and Snappy's are co-sponsoring a program entitled "Basic Orienteering with Map and Compass." We will spend approximately 3.5 hours classroom time learning the art of navigation with a 7.5 minute topo quad and an orienteering compass. Each student should purchase a quad of their choice at Snappy's for $8.00 Participants may pre-order an adjustable declination, rotating dial, azimuth compass such as Silva Ranger, or the Silva Ranger Hi-Vis model 515CL from Barb at Snappy's (406-257-7525). MWA will also have a few for use. There is no charge for the class, and after the classroom session, we will take to the field to practice, wrapping up around 3:30pm. Koocanusa: Excellent Rainbow fish trolling with plugs or flys try near dam or Rexford. Thompson Chain: Middle T - starting to open up. All other lakes BAD ICE! Flathead River Slough: All starting to open up. Church is ice free but closed to boats until April 10th. Upper Flathead River: Excellent for Rainbows & Mt Whitefish. Try nymps dry on warm days - Be Sure To Check Regs! Flathead Lake: Good Lake Trout fishing try Pt. Rocks. Jigging 120'-150'. Trolling spoons 200' down. Please Be Safe. Most Ice is BAD NOW!
