Ice Conditions are changing quick! Be VERY CAREFUL of any body of water as of now!
Bitterroot Lake
BAD ICE on South End. Still fishing North End but fishing has slowed way down.
Ashley Lake
Still Fishing but watch all edges.
Lake Mary Ronan
Still fishing most all of the lake.
Lower Stillwater
Good ice on entire lake, watch edges!
Island Lake
Should be good. Watch out for spring holes.
Thompson Chain
On the verge of not fishable!

Thompson Chain
Upper: Good Ice. Perch and Pike
Middle: 5"-8" off Logan. Perch, Pike, Kokanee
Lower: Few Trout, mostly Perch, Pike, and Kokanee.
Lake Mary Ronan
7"-9" of ice. Good Perch and Kokanee
Ashley Lake
6"-8" of ice pretty much entire lake. Good number of Kokanee being caught 60'-100' on depth.
Bitterroot Lake
Now fishing the south end. 5"-6" of ice. North end is still better ice. Good number of Kokanee.
Smith Lake
10"-12" of ice. Lots of Pike, some Perch.
Flathead Lake
Open Water! West shore, "Painted Rocks" jigging deep 60'-80'.
Little McGregor
Good Perch numbers. Few small Rainbows.

Ultimate Angler Challenge 2016

  • Entry will be $75.00 per team.
  • Each contestant must have valid MT fishing license and valid boat registration for current year.
  • Size limits/bag limit – any bass 12” and over may be weighed – no team may have more than two bass on boat over 12” at any time. Each team may weigh up to six bass, through out tournament hours.
  • Tournament hours & location - Echo Lake fishing access site will be launch and weigh in site. Hours will be 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Teams – Will consist of a two man or woman team.  One member must be eighteen or older.
  • Dead Fish Penalty – No dead fish will be weighed.  All fish must be alive and swim off freely.
  • Fishable water/off limits – There will be no pre-fishing Friday before the tournament.  All of Echo Lake is Tournament water.
  • If Abbott and Peterson are passable they will be fishable waters also.
  • Alcoholic beverages/narcotics – Any contestant under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances during tournament hours will be an automatic disqualification.
  • Insurance & Liability – It is the sole responsibility of the boat owner to carry and have proof of liability insurance covering them and their passengers.
  • Encroachment – All contestants must stay 25 yards away
  • from any other boat during tournament hours.
  • Late Weigh-In – Any teams coming in late, their fish will not be weighed.
  • Citations – Any contestant cited during tournament will be disqualified.
  • Live well – All fish must be kept in aerated live well and or cooler.
  • Pre-meeting – There will be a pre-meeting at Snappy's
    • Friday April 22th at 6:30 pm for overview of rules
    • Big Fish Pot.  This is a mandatory rules meeting for at least one team member.
  • Max Teams – There will be a maximum of 25 teams at this event.
  • Boat Washing – All boat owners/contestants must follow all preventive A.I.S. measure's before and after tournament.  *** See Insert.***
  • Sportsmanship – The laws of sportsmanship and good judgment as well as courtesy toward others on and off the water will adhered to at all times, during tournament.
  • Bait/Tackle Restrictions – All MT FWP rules apply.  There is no fishing with live bait during this tournament.  (Live bait would be worms, night crawlers, leeches, crayfish, frogs etc...).  
  • Decisions – All decisions of tournament director shall be final.

3-5" of ice. Be careful of soft spots. Good numbers of Perch being caught.
Thompson Chain of Lakes
Multiple species, Perch, Pike, Salmon, Rainbows.... Decent ice, no machines, 3-5" of ice.
Ashley Lake
3-5" of ice. Reports of good Kokanee numbers, few Perch.
Little Bitterroot
Only fishing North end. Lions Camp, etc. Few Rainbows and Kokanee being caught.
Smith & Lower Stillwater
Slushy, but has the most ice. Lots of small Pike and few Perch being caught.
Island Lake
Lots of Perch! Watch out for spring holes.
Little McGregor
Lots of small Perch, few Rainbows.
